Gérard Bertrands – Main initiative was to cultivate our vineyards following the biodynamic principles. This was a critical decision made in 2002.
We started at Cigalus estate, respecting the Demeter certification. After a few years and the conversion of the whole estate, we extended progressively the practice to every parcels of our vineyard. At this time, all of our 15 estates (920 hectares) are cultivated biodynamically. No chemical treatment, soils management, trees plantations… these methods reinforce the biodiversity in our estates. We also install bee hives in our estates. They produce honey in Château l’Hospitalet, Clos d’Ora, Cigalus and Domaine de l’Estagnère. Bees are vital for the environment and our ecosystem, they are the sentinels of our protected nature.
Our wineries demand best practices, designed for the most efficient energy use. Our Cap Insula facility has been certified as carbon-neutral, and we work with renowned French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, founder of the GoodPlanet Foundation, on the 10,000 trees objective agroforestry program in our region
All the estates are certified or in the process of the certification DEMETER and we also offer wines with the AB label, the BEE Friendly Label.
